Coverages

Movers' and Warehousemen's Liability

The following coverages are offered under this policy:

Liability as a Warehouseman

Warehousemen's legal liability insures the warehouseman based on the warehouse receipt issued by the warehouseman, according to the provisions of the policy. Most warehouse receipts exclude coverage for fire and acts of God.

Liability as a Carrier

This section insures the carrier for its legal liability for loss or damage to goods while in its care, custody and/or control during the course of transit or while being held as "storage in transit."

Insured's Uncollectible Charges

When a shipment is destroyed in the midst of being moved (in a van fire, for example), the customer is not required to pay the shipping charges. The mover, of course, has expenses arising from packing and hauling the shipment up to the point where it has been damaged. This section of the policy will reimburse the mover for its out-of-pocket expenses up to the point of loss.

Moving Equipment

Coverage is provided for loss or damage to the insured's moving equipment, both warehouse and in-van (i.e., vaults, pads, dollies, skids, forklifts, etc.).

Because of our expertise in the moving and storage industry, Vanliner's Furniture Movers' and Warehousemen's Liability coverage provides special protection and services that other cargo and warehouse insurance policies do not. For example:

  • Our plan covers all shipments moving under your authority - interstate as well as intrastate. This is especially important if your authority extends beyond the state in which your agency is based.

  • Claims on shipments handled on your authority are settled by adjusters who are knowledgeable in both the insurance and transportation industries.

  • Vanliner's warehouse coverage can provide a single combined limit of liability for each of your warehouse facilities. Many cargo and warehouse policies require that separate liability limits be determined for different classes of property, such as household goods, electronics, and government shipments. But because the mix of your warehouse contents changes throughout the year, you may find yourself without enough coverage for a certain class of property in the event of a disaster. Vanliner will help you avoid this by combining those separate limits of liability. Thus, you'll have one large limit of liability from which to draw in the event of a disaster, instead of three, four, or five specific ones.

  • If you have two or more locations, we will provide coverage for your office or warehouse equipment, packing materials, or any other property you own while it is being transported on your own vans between your locations. This part of our cargo and warehouse coverage excludes in-van equipment, which is covered in the standard provisions of the policy.

  • Your customers can receive full-value replacement coverage for goods handled on your authority. This includes storage in transit (SIT) shipments and permanent storage.
